The Director’s Vision
Museum Director Sets His Sights on the Internet

John Wallsteadt has been Director of the Masonic Museum and Library for more than five years. Though he works tirelessly to preserve the history of Michigan Masonry inside the bright walls of the 6,000-square-foot building, Wallsteadt knows that he needs to make his collection globally accessible.

"My vision [for the museum and library] revolves around the effective expansion of our ability to make our collections readily available to as many people as possible," explained Wallsteadt, who wants to get as much material online as soon as possible. "We want any Mason, or non-Mason, worldwide to sit in the comfort of their own home and peruse our collections, any time day or night."

"We are fortunate to have the support of our Grand Lodge, the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation, and the Masons of Michigan while we strive to promote and preserve these important resources," stated Wallsteadt.

John has been a Mason for over 41 years. His current "home" is Big Rapids Lodge No. 171, but he also holds a dual membership with Grand Rapids Lodge No. 34 and holds an honorary membership with Doric Lodge No. 342. A member of the Grand Rapids Scottish Rite with a 33rd Degree, John was recently appointed an officer of the Grand Lodge as Michigan's first Librarian by the Grand Master.
